As the chief locus of the early Brazilian slave trade, Bahia is considered to possess the greatest and most distinctive African imprint, in terms of culture and customs, in Brazil. These include the Yoruba-derived culture system of Candomblé, the capoeira (martial art emerged in Quilombo dos Palmares, located in the state of Alagoas ), African-derived music such as samba (especially Brazlian samba precursor, the samba-de-roda), afoxé, and axé with strong links to western Africa.

Rulers of the forces of nature's elements, the Orixás each embody distinct qualities. As a rule, there are 16 main deities worshiped by followers of the Candomblé culture in Brazil, which is an adapted version of african Yoruba/Voodoo culture. Ogun (pronounced Ogún) is the inventor of spiritual festivals.
Ogun is an Orixá that appears in several African cultures. He invented an event that serves as the core of the Olojo Festival and that is the celebration of the remembrance of 'Ogun', master of Iron, who is believed to be the first son of Oduduwa, progenitor of the Yoruba people.
